The ReGen Village is designed to be self-sustaining The first ReGen Village pilot community is to be developed in Almere in Netherlands There are newly conceived community concepts around the world that are designed to help people live more sustainably. Bicester in the UK, for example, is using solar power in a bid to become the country's first true zero carbon community, while the Cannery in California, US, has its own farm with which it feeds its community. The ReGen Village concept takes a holistic approach. The five "pillars" upon which it based are the provision of energy-positive homes, doorstep high-yield organic food production, mixed renewable energy and storage, water and waste recycling, and empowerment of local communities. ReGen itself stands for "regenerative," which reference the intention to use the outputs of one system as the inputs of another. ReGen Villages describes itself as a "tech-integrated real estate development company." It enlisted Danish architects EFFEKT to work with it in designing the blueprint for its planned self-sustaining eco-communities, which can be accommodated within 15,450 sq m (166,300 sq ft). Among the technologies employed at the villages are renewable energy vertical farming aquaponics and aeroponics Financial backing for the villages is being sourced from wealth funds that are looking to divest from fossil fuels into impact and knowledge-based investments. ReGen uses the money raised to acquire suitable areas of land and works with national and local municipalities that are supportive of the approach. Its blueprint model is adapted to suit a site's local conditions by ReGen's team of "regenerative platform technologists," working with local architecture, construction and engineering firms. Once a village is up and running, ReGen continues to manage it, providing services to residents and monitoring performance so as to make improvements. Among the technologies employed at the villages are renewable energy generation, energy storage, vertical farming aquaponics and aeroponics, water management and waste-to-resource systems. Food is also grown organically and there is a focus on maintaining a high biodiversity in surrounding areas. The first ReGen Village pilot community is to be developed in Almere in Netherlands, with work on the first 100 homes due to break ground later this year. Other villages in the pipeline include sites in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany. https://newatlas.com/effekt-regen-villages/43551/

Now more than ever before people all over the planet are seeking new sustainable models for living. EcoVillages and ecological communities have been emerging as a viable alternative where people can live together in cooperation and harmony with the natural world. 'A New We' explores 10 such communities in Europe and opens doors to further exploration and discovery on the new 'Global EcoVillage & Sustainable Community Network'! Please join the conversation and participate in the 'A New We' initiative which aims towards evolving the EcoVillage model into the 21st century! The Austrian documentary filmmaker Stefan Wolf traveled through Europe in order to explore and document well established eco-communities that portray some of the broad spectrum of lifestyle possibilities that are part of our global effort to transition to a sustainable world. Experience ecovillages and ecological communities in Europe in this two-hour long documentary portrait. The variety of situations and voices in 'A New We' inspires hope for the future of humanity and all life on the planet. The lives shown here are more motivated by imagination, vision, respect, and cooperation than by economic forces and social expectations. In these 10 communities, the creative solutions to many social, environmental and economic challenges exemplify the nearly infinite capacity for human-, community- and self-development. It’s a film that enlightens, encourages and spreads hope – for a new world and A New We.

Hiroyuki Sato, the CEO of AMITA Institute for Sustainable Economies Co., Ltd. seeks to create an environmentally sustainable community that includes renewable energies, resources and food based on the local natural sources. In today’s world people have come to expect foods and products from across the globe to be readily and locally available. However once upon a time our lives were lived much closer to the land upon which we stood. Hiroyuki Sato, the CEO of AMITA Institute for Sustainable Economies Co., Ltd. seeks to re-establish our ties to our local environments. He has been making his goals a reality since 2011, when he began working with AMITA’s Tohoku Office. There, he has helped create an environmentally sustainable community that includes renewable energies, resources and food based on the local natural sources. It is Hiroyuki’s hope that as we re-focus our energies on building locally and environmentally sustainable communities, we also reinforce our ties with each other to create a richness of spirit that goes far beyond money. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Het is een bekend fenomeen in Amerika: off the grid wonen. The village of Wildpoldsried in the Allgäu generates enough electricity to satisfy the needs of all its 2,500 residents. It produces the power from biogas and wind turbines. Wildpoldsried has done this so well that it's become a model village, attracting many visitors from Germany and abroad. But can a small community like this really provide a model for large cities?

(Energy positive home...
